Museum Volkenkunde, Leiden
This interesting museum opened in 1837 in the monumental building that used to be a teaching hospital.
The collection comprises a large number of objects from Africa, China, North America and other places. Many of these items are antiques.
Do you own an unusual object? Bring it along to the museum’s ‘surgery’, and an expert will tell you more about its authenticity, age, and what it was used for.
In addition to the impressive permanent exhibition, the National Museum of Ethnology also stages changing exhibitions, has a shop, an information centre and a restaurant for a nice lunch or a drink after you have visited the museum.
